STEAM in OSHC – Hobart
June 19, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Providing a platform for the innovators, educators, leaders and learners of the 21st century
STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding children’s inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. The outcome of engagement in these areas are children who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process.
This workshop will allow participants to build knowledge and confidence by discovering the various ways of incorporating STEAM into everyday practice. A range of resources will be provided for participants, allowing for experiential learning and embedding ideas through a hands on collaborative approach.
We will delve into the following:
– reflections on prior experiences in STEAM, does this restrict us or inspire us
– importance of addressing STEAM in OSHC settings and what is the research telling us
– providing experiences that promote children’s problem solving skills
– resources required and where can these be obtained
– creating engaging spaces that promote collaboration and investigation
