DESCRIPTION:Why children love it and need it! \n  \nLiving in our current risk-averse society\, many educators are fearful of litigation\, many parents are fearful for their children getting hurt and many children are anxious and frustrated by restrictions placed on them by adults. \nThis workshop will challenge you to rethink your practice and beliefs around risky play. Adults hold the power to either allow or discourage risky play\, but what are the consequences of not allowing the space and time for children to challenge themselves? Are we holding onto our perceptions about risk rather than basing our practice on research and facts? \n  \nWorkshop participants will consider: \n\nwhy children need to take risks\nadult’s roles and responsibilities for providing adventurous and risk taking experiences in the early years\nrisk taking as a catalyst for deeper levels of engagement\nstrategies for bringing families and colleagues on board.\n\n  \nThis workshop will leave you with: \n\nknowledge of how risky play benefits children in the early years\nidentify and tune in to individual perceptions and confidence around risk taking\ncommunicate the benefits of risk taking in an appropriate and empathetic way\neasy processes for implementing appropriate risk taking into your program/curriculum.\n\n  \nFacilitator: Scott Gibson \nCost: $55 (exclusive GST and booking fee) \n  \nREGISTRATION FORM HERE\n\nThe National Quality Standard: \nQA 1.1 The educational program enhances each child’s learning and development. \nQA 2.2.1 At all times\, reasonable precautions and adequate supervision ensure children are protected from harm and hazard. \nQA 3.2.1 Outdoor and indoor spaces are organised and adapted to support every child’ participation and to engage every child in quality experiences in both built and natural environments. \nQA 5.2.1 Children are supported to collaborate\, learn from and help each other. \n  \nAustralian Professional Teaching Standard: \nAPTS 6.2.2 Participate in learning to update knowledge and practice\, targeted to professional needs and school and/or system priorities. \nAPTS 6.3.2 Contribute to collegial discussions and apply constructive feedback from colleagues to improve professional knowledge and practice. \n
